Deputy prepares firearm for safekeeping.

Gun Dispossession Unit

In compliance with Oregon House Bill 2013, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office established the Gun Dispossession Unit (GDU) to ensure firearm compliance on all applicable court orders.

Oregon House Bill 2013 requires all people served with a firearm compliance order to surrender all firearms and ammunition that are either in their control or possession, to law enforcement or a qualified third party.

Firearm prohibition court orders require people to turn over their firearms and ammunition within a certain time period once the order is issued. If a person fails to comply with the order’s rules, it may lead to a criminal charge.

In compliance with Oregon House Bill 2013, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office established the Gun Dispossession Unit (GDU) to ensure firearm compliance on all applicable court orders. The unit’s goal is to reduce gun violence or the threat of violence to oneself, their family and community.

Gun Dispossession Unit actively enforces the compliance rules by serving court orders and tracking firearms related to those orders issued to respondents.

We also assist respondents to ensure they are compliant within the court order’s deadline.

If you have any specific question and/or are a respondent on a court order and need assistance, contact the GDU by sending an email to, GDU@mcso.us.
